When I was ready to give birth to my second baby, I collected a large number of inspirational quotes about childbirth and they really helped me focus on the task ahead and also inspired me to feel the greatness within me. No, they really did!
And so, I plan to put together a list of inspirational quotes for teaching that I can turn back to when I need to remember the whys and wherefores at the end of a tough day.
Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.~ Benjamin Franklin
I love the following quote to inspire students and myself to question everything before they believe it to be truth:
I know that most men, including those at ease with problems of the greatest complexity, can seldom accept the simplest and most obvious truth if it be such as would oblige them to admit the falsity of conclusions which they have proudly taught to others, and which they have woven, thread by thread, into the fabrics of their life. ~Leo Tolstoy
I heard this quoted today by a teacher at Hawthorne who I admire greatly:
Proverbs 27:17 (NIRV) As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
Learning happens together. I make you sharper and you make me sharper. If you cause me hardship, I learn from that and take things away from it. I harden myself so that I can continue to get sharper in the face of adversity.
No one of us is as smart as all of us.
